Fresh air is vital for your health

Fresh air is vital for your health - Who would be without air conditioning in the hot, humid summer? But now that the weather is cooling it is time to open the windows and get out and get some real fresh air.

Indoor air quality is generally poorer than outdoor. Studies have shown that the people exposed to air conditioning are more susceptible to colds, ‘flu, headaches and other minor respiratory ailments. Studies also show that the body undergoes stress when it is forced to go from a boiling hot environment into a cool air-conditioned one. Due to climate people in the Gulf spend a lot of time inside with the air conditioning blasting away. Now the weather is cooling it is time to give your body the benefit of some fresh air.

Why is fresh air so important?

Fresh air is indeed, the elixir of life. Three things keep us alive: Water, food, and fresh air.

Without good food we could only last two or three weeks. Without water, we would die in a matter of days. Without fresh air, we could not live more than a few minutes.

Getting outdoors on a regular basis can improve one’s health and sense of well-being. The air we breathe indoors is not fresh. Dust in desert countries that collects in the house is a fact of everyday life. It collects on every surface. As we try to get rid of it, the dust swirls around us and makes its way into our respiratory system via the nose and mouth.

What does fresh air do?

Fresh air cleans our lungs. When we cough our lungs are getting rid of the impurities that we suck up on a weekly basis. But, after a while we’ll begin to breathe deeper and deeper which brings more oxygen to our cells. The increased oxygen gives us energy to do the things we need to do. More oxygen brings greater clarity to the brain, which needs 20 percent of our body’s oxygen to function. We can think better than we could before.

Exercises performed outdoors in fresh air offer increased aerobic benefits. Fresh clean air in helps improve our breathing technique. Better technique increases stamina.

Fresh air cannot be found everywhere outdoors. If you live near a building site there will be a lot of dust about, so it is important to get away at the weekends and give our bodies the benefits of fresh air. Fresh air produces a healthy mind, clean lungs and a calmer constitution when we actively use it.

Getting outdoors should not be a chore, but a privilege. Enjoying the earth and get your dose of fresh air. The Gulf has a beautiful coastline and lovely deserts. When I lived in the Middle East I loved to take my family to the desert to camp for a few days and feel the cool crisp desert air, and to spend a few peaceful nights away from city life.

The Gulf seashore is one of the best locations for enjoying the benefits of real fresh air: It is imperative that we distance ourselves from fumes and viruses.

Fresh air is a healer

With regard to the therapeutic properties of fresh air, it should be borne in mind that the oxygen in the air we breathe affects the whole body as if it were charged with electricity.

Nature is a great physician and there are life-giving properties in the air. Even wounds heal much more rapidly when exposed to fresh air and sunshine.

During the cooler winter months take a daily walk outside every evening you’ll simultaneously obtain the benefits of fresh air and walking, which is a great for your body and soul. ( arabnews.com )

  1. Great article. I live on the Gulf Coast and try to walk for fresh air. Because, as you point out air quality is worse in the home, I use a air purifier to keep indoor air fresh.
